Look Back: Royal Pacfic Resort
With Universal’s new onsite hotel, Cabana Bay Beach Resort soon to be built on “Hotel Tract G”, we thought it would be fun to take a Look Back at the hotel originally planned for that site: Universal’s Royal Pacific Resort.
Loews Royal Pacific Resort opened in 2001 as Universal Orlando’s third onsite resort, situated on a plot of land right off Universal Blvd. But the resort wasn’t initially intended to be built there. The resort was originally going to occupy the 70+ acre plot of land off Turkey Lake road, and have a much more sprawling layout. Plans filed with the SFWMD in October of 1999 detailed this layout, one that featured seven hotel buildings, a large outdoor recreation area, multiple pools, and a much larger convention center. A modification was later filed in August of 2000, which placed the hotel on the plot of land it sits on today, and dramatically reduced its size and layout.
Included below are the plans for the original Royal Pacific Resort, as well as a colored overlay to give you a better understanding of its layout.
